Shop Drawings for Upside-down Base Pouring

Producers that pour bases upside down and flip them over after the pour need the ability to print shop drawings where the base parts are upside down (inverted) and the remaining parts are printed right side up (normal).

STACK-IT provides the capability of creating shop drawings that meet this need.

Setting Up
There are three steps to prepare STACK-IT to print upside-down drawings for bases.

Step 1) enable inverted drawings for the individual base parts. This is accomplished on the Stock screen.

Stock parts that use the Base, Base_EL, Base_Incremental and Base_Incremental_EL part styles may be enabled to print inverted drawings.

Select the part to be enabled and set the MfgFlags specification field to "Enable Inverted". Then click the Replace button to save the part change.

Repeat this step for each part to be enabled for Inverted printing.

Step 2) configure a report layout to enable inverted drawings. This is accomplished by selecting the Setup screen, then selecting the Report Layout Configuration setup option.

Part based page layouts (layouts that print one part per page or cluster), commonly called "Shop" layouts, may contain one or more Flat Pattern, Side View or Top View page objects. These page objects can be configured to invert their drawings for base parts.

Select the page object to be configured, select the Inverted Drawing configuration and turn on the check to Enable Inverted Drawings.

Repeat this step for each page object to be enabled.

Step 3) configure a Report Mode profile to control when drawings are to be inverted. This is accomplished by selecting the Setup screen, then selecting the Report Mode Profiles setup option.

Select the profile to be configured.

Set the Zero Degree Rotation option to determine the direction of rotation for parts that are right side up.

Set the Zero Degree Flat Pattern option to locate the zero degree position on the left or the right end of the flat pattern for parts that are right side up.

Set the Inverted Drawings option to enable inverted drawings.

This completes the configuration process.

Printing Drawings

In the Quote Print screen, select a layout that has page objects (Top View, Flat Pattern or Side View) enabled for inverted drawings.

Then select a Report Mode profile that has inverted drawings enabled.

 

Select a structure and preview of drawings. 

The following two the illustrations show a base and a riser that are printed using the same page layout and the same report mode profile.

In both cases the page layout has inverted drawings enabled for the top view, side view and flat pattern. But since the Base was the only part that had the manufacturing flag set to enable inverted drawings, only the drawings for the base parts were actually inverted. The drawings for the Riser remained normal and upright.

Once the parts have been enabled (step 1) and the report layouts have been enabled (step 2), shop drawings can be quickly created that have inverted or upright base parts drawn by simply selecting report mode profiles that either enable or disable inverted drawings.

If you do not get inverted drawings:

First check the items in Steps 1, 2 and 3 above. If you changed the Stock settings in Step 1, you will need to restack the estimate for the changes to take effect (Stack-All is a fast way to do this).

On the Quote Print screen, make sure you have selected a layout that has inverted drawings enabled and that the report mode profile selected is enabled.
